Winner of the 2006 cowgirl up peoples choice desert Cabalero‘s western museum.

It was a tragic day in 1939 when Mary’s grandfather met his feet. Depicted in the pivotal moment when Roy Cooper‘s horse reared up, the headstall broke as he was dismounting. The fatal mistake was his arm became tangled in his lariat and he was dragged to death. He tried to cut the rope and scared along on his boots but the rocks and trees stumps prevented any hope of survival as the horse ran away and panic. Look closely at the base you will see the angel of death’s Face and hands holding the horses hooves.

Roy’s wife, Nel, kept the ranch going with the help of her sons and the ranch survives to this day.
